Windows 8 is released in 4 editions:
1. Windows 8 Core(Regular)
2. Windows 8 Professional
3. Windows 8 Enterprise
4. Windows RT
Detailed Description-
NOTE-Unlike Windows 7 and Windows Vista, there are no Starter, Ultimate, Home Premium, or Home Basic editions.
All editions have the ability to use language packs, enabling multiple user interface languages.
This functionality was previously only available in Windows 7 Ultimate or Enterprise.
Windows 8 Core(Regular)
Windows 8 is the basic edition of Windows for the x86 and x86-64 architectures.
This edition contains features aimed at the home market segment and provides all of the basic new, Windows 8 features including the Start screen with semantic zoom, live tiles, Windows Store, Internet Explorer 10, connected standby, Microsoft account integration, the Windows desktop, and more.
Windows 8 Professional
Windows 8 Pro succeeds Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate and is targeted towards enthusiasts and business users; it includes all the features of Windows 8.
Additional features include operating as a Remote Desktop server, the ability to participate in a Windows Server domain, Encrypting File System, Hyper-V, and Virtual Hard Disk Booting, Group Policy as well as BitLocker and BitLocker To Go.
Windows Media Center functionality will be available only for Windows 8 Pro(NON-VL/Retail), as a paid “Media Pack.”
Windows 8 Enterprise
Windows 8 Enterprise provides all the features in Windows 8 Pro, with additional features to assist with IT organization (see table below).
This edition will only be available to Software Assurance customers.
Windows RT
Windows RT will only be available pre-installed on ARM-based devices such as tablet PCs, and was named for the Windows Runtime (WinRT) development platform that Microsoft is introducing in Windows 8.
It will include touch-optimized desktop versions of the basic set of Office 2013 applications to users—Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, and support device encryption capabilities.
Several business-focused features such as Group Policy and domain support are not included.

Windows 8 Activation
3 METHODS OF ACTIVATION WORKING NOW-

Note-
1. Permanent Activator for Windows 8 is still not available. KMS Activation is possible now which is valid for a period of 180 days and Phone Activation is possible which is Permanent.
2. Another Important thing is that only Professional and Enterprise versions of Windows 8 can be activated via KMS. So avoid downloading the Core version.
If you've already downloaded Core ISO, install it with Professional version Key !!!
1. WINDOWS 8 KMS ACTIVATION
Please follow the following steps and your system would be activated in no time.
1.Check your system time, time zone before trying to activate.(This step is crucial,If these are wrong then activation would not be successful.)
2.Make sure you haven't used any false activators like KJ or P8 to activate prior to KMS Activation, as activation will fail then.
Those who have already used them are requested to follow the following steps-
a. Open cmd as admin(If you don't know how to do this in Windows 8 please click Here for instructions and screenshots.)
b. Type sfc /scannow
Note: There's a space between sfc and /scannow
It will Scans integrity of all protected system files and repairs files with problems when possible.
Then it may say to reboot...do it
c. Then try to activate.

Download the one click KMS Activation Helper Tool. Type the working SERVER and then activate your version of Windows 8.
